As mentioned, first segment of the career day was organised to present more of faculty information to employer, and plan basic research on skills required in the present day market.
The questionnaire has been designed containing some quantitative information collected from company representatives. As it can be deduced from the Table below among 12 most important skills employer questionnaire results demonstrate that all dimensions opt to distinguish six skills that have above average ranking.
These are in order of importance: Analytical skills, ability to meet the deadlines, team working skills, communication skills, ability to process information and research skills.
According to survey results less priority is assigned to ability to orally present information, organizational skills and, quite ironically, ability to present information in written form. Ability of adaptation to unfamiliar environment, ability to work under tight deadlines and creativity were considered to be moderately important for employers. Among other skills that were repeatedly mentioned by employers, but not included in the list of 12 basic skills, are self-development, broad thinking, communication skills, flexibility and orientation to results.
The research finding were more interesting when were considered the different attitudes across the dimensions.
The score results on Economics and Law sections were eliminated due to lack and inconsistency of data. The graph demonstrates importance of written reporting, analytical and communication skills for candidates pursuing Marketing major.
Employers from Business management section prioritize on ability to meet deadlines, creativity and analytical skills.
Financiers prefer candidates to be able to work and meet tight deadlines while demonstrating excellent analytical skills.
Finally, the employers from the IT sphere consider the analytical skills, research skills and ability to process information to be the most important.
The specific part of a questionnaire was designed to determine professional knowledge requirements within the framework of a particular dimension. After summarising all of the answers it was concluded that the companies expect their employee to possess only basic theoretical knowledge on a particular sphere. Additionally, the participants of round-table sessions considered that knowledge of two –three foreign languages and basic IT skills are important assets for employee. Representatives from the Business Management section particularly emphasised that potential employee should have sufficient level of knowledge for identifying the purpose of activities of an organization and be updated on changes in the economy of Uzbekistan. The Finance, Audit and Marketing dimensions concluded that excellent knowledge of local company laws is the main success factor of potential employee.
Overall. WIUT Career fair has taught positive lessons, and employed both academic staff and business with valuable information. WIUT CDC will be constantly running various researches directed towards the exploration of labor market.
